Location: SW London

I have a great opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a high end residential building contractor on a permanent basis, based in their SW London offices.

The company have been around since the 1980’s, initially carrying out small extensions and alterations within the high end residential sector. Over the years they have continuously evolved, and are one of the most reputable builders in the high end residential sector carrying out prestigious projects to the highest quality.

They carry out new build developments, refurbishment projects, extensions and alterations throughout South West London and the surrounding areas. Regardless of the project, the aim remains the same; to exceed their clients’ high expectations. Client focus and an uncompromising attitude to quality of finish are the driving forces behind the success of their business.

They are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to work on a mix of high end residential new build and refurbishment projects, between £0.5m – £5m in value. The role will be office based with site visits as and when required. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and be responsible for maximising the gross margin on the company’s building contracts through obtaining best prices for sub-contracts, accurately assessing costs during delivery of the contract and in justifying to and claiming all contractual payments due to the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and despatch tender packages to sub-contractors (with clerical support)
  • Set up job files and all necessary records (with clerical support and in conjunction with Accounts Department)
  • Collate sub-contractor tenders and, in consultation with the Contracts Manager, award sub-contracts
  • (In conjunction with the Senior Project Surveyor), check and approve sub-contractors’ claims for payment
  • Liaise with sub-contractors to resolve queries
  • Assess and cost variations to contract
  • Update and maintain records
  • Assist with contract valuations
  • Assist with monthly cost/value reconciliations
  • Submit and agree final accounts (in conjunction with the Senior Project surveyor)

Assistant Quantity Surveyor:

  • Ideally Degree qualified or currently studying towards a Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working for a reputable main contractor
  • Residential project experience would be highly advantageous
  • Previous experience dealing with sub-contractors
