Bouygues has soared to the top of the contracts league ranked by total work secured by contractors during the last 12 months.

The top rankings were shaken up in July as major project wins on SMART motorways schemes and the Thames super sewer project dropped out of the 12-month rolling totals for many of Britain’s big name major contractors.

According to information specialist Glenigan, this leaves Bouygues in pole position with the biggest tally of contract wins in the last 12 months, helped by its major phase 3 Battersea Power Station redevelopment win at the start of the year.

In the new order, BAM comes in second place followed by Balfour Beatty in third which has started to benefit from upping its contract win rate.

Sir Robert McAlpine takes the honours for most work won in the month of July after checking in with the £500m Peninsula Hotel project at Hyde Park Corner in London for Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels.

Among the other bid contract wins last month Balfour Beatty bagged a £170m job at Heathrow Airport for Ferrovial to upgrade baggage screening and handling.

Liverpool contractor Newry Construction secured a £40m deal to redevelop Wolstenholme Square with flats and offices in the city.

Buckingham Group Contracting secured an Alstom training centre in Widnes, valued at £60m over 3 phases, and BAM Construction picked up a £40m retirement village in Evesham for Barchester Healthcare.
