Firms picked for £85m Cumbrian water pipeline job
A joint venture between Irish-based contractors Farrans and Roadbridge has won an £85m contract to deliver a major pipeline project in Cumbria.
United Utilities has picked the joint venture ahead of four other bidders for the project, which will see the team design, construct and commission 32 km of twin water mains and 24 km of large-diameter water mains through Keswick.
The Farrans / Roadbridge contract will be one of several packages to be let under United Utilities’ Thirlmere Transfer West Cumbria Water Supplies Project.
The overall four-and-a-half-year programme will see 100 km of pipes installed at a cost of around £300m. It was granted full planning permission last year by Allerdale Council and is expected to create 400 jobs during construction.
Today’s contract win is the second for Farrans on the scheme after it secured the £85m deal to build a water treatment works and several pumping stations last year.
