Our client a Civil Engineering contractor are seeking a Project Manager to work on their North East Water framework.


The role requires the candidate to work on a number of Water / Waste Water Projects.


The candidate will be experienced in Water Projects from £5m each and have come progressed from an Engineering background


Lead the team delivering projects from tender through to completion; reporting to a Contracts Manager.


Will be responsible for the management and delivery of up to 3 or 4 projects up to £10m in total or alternatively a stand alone projects that is worth around £10m each


To ensure the successful completion of projects for the client by achieving acceptable financial outcomes, whilst maintaining and improving client relationships, and adherence to the quality/ safety/ environmental/sustainability/Lean policies of the business.



  • Ensure high levels of customer service is achieved;
  • Ownership of the Clause 32 programme;
  • Ensure timely methodology selection and preparation and completion of Method Statements, Risk and COSHH Assessments, and permits to work;
  • Reporting monthly to Contracts Manager the project cost value and progress against programme;
  • Ensure safe systems of work and adherence to Company Health and Safety Policy;
  • Develop and manage the Project Management Plan;
  • Ownership, leadership and promotion of project compliance with the Specification and the Company Policies for Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and sustainability issues;
  • Undertake the roles assigned within the contract PMP;
  • Develop supply chain relationships with suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of the project and future contracts including Manage subcontractor operations and coordination and holding collaborative meetings;
  • Maintain and develop client relationships for ensuring a successful outcome on completion and enhancing opportunities for securing repeat work;
  • Develop team culture to create an environment where motivation and morale is high and earn respect of team members to gain their commitment and support that ensures their optimum input in the project;
  • Actively promote actions to achieve our Sustainability goals and the Clients KPIs;
  • Communication at all levels regarding progress of projects;
  • Staff recruitment, appraisals and actively mentor, council and develop Engineers, Foremen and Sub Agents, Agents and Design Team;
  • Sign off requisitions for plant and materials and subcontractors within tender allowances;
  • Ensure customer care for all the stakeholders involved in a project
  • Financial overview of project in terms of: tender allowances, variances between tender and actual costs, preparation of cost to complete forecasts with QS team, review of QS prepared priced variations, ability to use financial feedback information to refine or develop methods and resources where practical to ensure a successful financial outcome for the project or limit the exposure to loss or reduced margin;
  • Manage temporary works planning and checking and lift plans in accordance with company procedures;
  • To carry out safety inspections and manage the Induction process
  • Provide support during tender processes by involvement in the preparation of programmes, methodology, and development of quality/safety/environmental plans;
  • To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning, ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same;
  • Develop the clause 31 programme, manage the monitoring of the clause 32 programme and as-built progress;
  • Produce monthly progress reports for Client meetings
  • Reviewing methods of working, alternative materials etc in order to maximise commercial profitability.

Knowledge skills & experience

  • CITB Level 3 Safety Course SMSTS (5 day);
  • Appropriate CSCS card (Desirable);
  • Professional qualification (Desirable);
  • Chartered status or approaching (Desirable);
  • HND in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
  • Degree in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Desirable);
  • Knowledge and understanding of NEC 3 Conditions of Contract, and in implementing contract processes;
  • First Aid at Work (4 day);
  • CPD evidence of relevant post graduate practical training e.g. attendance on courses for Forms of Contract, Scaffolding Appreciation, Formwork/Falsework Appreciation, Concrete Technology, H&S Management, planning e.t.c. (Desirable);
  • Appointed person and Temporary Works Co-ordinator (Desirable);
  • Behavioural safety training (Desirable);
  • Training in Lean principles;
  • Has held a similar position with a Civil Engineering Contractor for a sustained period;
  • Experience of working within the Water Sector;
  • Experience running projects as a “number 1” above £10M in value;
  • Experience in the management of design and construct contracts;
  • Proven experience from engineering background demonstrating progress through Engineer and Site Agent to Project Manager;
  • Experienced in Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint;
  • Experienced in supervision of other Design Engineers, Agents and Sub-Agents;
  • Knowledge of BIM;
  • Extensive knowledge of programme planning sequencing and updating.
