Project Planner – Slough/Ruislip
We’re looking for skilled, expert and motivated people who’ll help us meet national needs in Civil Rail. Their future success depends on having the very best team of people who will help us to meet our customers’ complex challenges by providing our solutions faster, with more innovation and at less cost.

Projects will be a mixture of London Underground, DLR and Network Rail Projects between £5m-£25m with some smaller ones from around £1m.

This is where you come in:

Working with one of our major clients in the Rail Industry, as an integral part of the team, you will be responsible for guiding and influencing staff, both inside and outside the Planning team, in order to implement planning working practices appropriate to a programme in line with industry and company standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Build, optimise and implement appropriate planning and programmes (including resources, outages, consents and way leaves)
  • When necessary produce detailed trackers to be used to collect and report progress made on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Develop a deep understanding of contracts such as NEC and its requirements
  • Work closely with the project team to maximise the potential of each project, attend site meetings when necessary to discuss progress and update the project plan together with reporting back on any knock-on effects
  • Represent the business at client meetings
  • Work with the Planning Manager to ensure that the planning function interfaces effectively with the other departments
  • Support programme integration, governance, formats, plan optimisation, and planning best practices
  • Gather benchmarking information to aid the Value For Money (VFM) assessment on each project
  • Monitor and control programme compliance in respect of our contractual obligations

Qualifications:

  • HND/Degree level education in a Business/Finance/Engineering/Project Management discipline or equivalent – Essential
  • PTS – Desirable
  • CSCS Card – Desirable
  • 3 years+ Experience including Civil Rail Projects with a Sub/Main Contractor – Essential
  • Earned Value Foundation (APMG)
  • APM Introductory Certificate
  • Ideally APMP or working towards APMP

Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

  • Ideally have more than 3 years’ experience of creating complex schedules
  • Identifying and maintaining dependencies within programme/project schedules
  • Integration of master schedule to programme/project schedules
  • Rollup of cross-project resources to consolidated resource plans
  • Troubleshooting of problems resulting from schedule content or planning tool limitations
  • Ideally have demonstrable experience of using Earned Value Management Systems
  • Advanced Primavera (P6) skills and/or have demonstrable skills in the use of other planning tools such as MS Project
  • Presentation, facilitation, communication and influencing skills
  • Motivated, well organised and methodical
  • Stakeholder management experience with excellent written and verbal communication skills
