A Regional Civil Engineering contractor is seeking an Estimator who will be responsible for compiling robust base estimates for their tender submissions. They will work closely with all involved in the tender team including Bid Managers, Engineering, Planning, Procurement & Commercial to ensure a cohesive and robust estimate is generated. The Estimator helps consider and model risk at the tendering stage and takes part in the Company’s tender approval processes.

Responsibilities:
• Estimating costs and commercial risks of projects at the bid stage
• Co-ordinate estimating from other departments and help link the scope, programme, risks and technical submission in generating a cohesive price in formats that suit both the tender submission and the internal Company approval processes
• Development of databases: intelligence gathering and research from past projects to assist in future projects
• Co-ordination of subcontractor bids to tie in to Company bidding to clients
• Using standard techniques and experience to scrutinise tender estimates to ensure their competitiveness

Ideal candidate:
• Minimum HNC or equivalent in a construction/technical discipline, e.g. Civil Engineering, with professional experience gained in a relevant industry
• Experience of Estimating in a main contractor design and build environment
• Ability to communicate at all levels with all departments and disciplines
• Experienced in management of information (using databases), estimating costs and project deliverables
• Full understanding of project lifecycle and design and construct process
• Prospective candidates may come from a commercial or Construction/Technical Engineering background
• Good understanding of risk and familiarisation with NEC forms of contract would be beneficial
