A Leading Tier 1 contractor is seeking an Estimator with civil rail experience to work on a £900m project based out of Birmingham. This project is focused towards the enabling works for the HS2.

Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Estimator to join our team within HS2 and Rail Projects.

The key duties will include:

– Work with production staff to establish methodology, programme, resource requirements etc.

– Work with Commercial and Procurement staff to identify sub contract enquiry packages, prepare and receive enquiries and select suppliers in order to obtain the required number of compliant competitive quotations.

– Where necessary produce programmes to establish indirect costs and overheads

– Contribute to risk review / assessment process where required.

– Take part in review and handover meetings as required.

– Produce commercial information in the prescribed format and detail to enable commercial delivery team to upload to COINS Valuations.

– Work with members of bid team to assemble supporting information for tender review and submission.

– Assist as required in post tender negotiations.

– Keep abreast of operating/installation methods adopted on site, and the resources required in same, through visits to site and discussions with management.

– Work to best practice throughout estimating function based on established procedures.

Job Requirements

You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role. The candidate will also ideally have the following experience/skill set:

  • Previous experience in a similar role is a requirement.
  • Professional qualification and appropriate professional body membership.
  • Proven experience in successful estimating within Railway, Commercial, Construction or comparable industry.
  • Demonstrable experience and track record of accurate costings and being part of a winning team.
  • Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
