An opportunity has arisen to join a Tier 1 Main contractor on the prestigious EWR Phase 2 programme. As an established and experienced railway infrastructure contractor. The East West Rail Alliance is a “pure” alliance consisting of three Non-Owner Participants (NOPs); Network Rail. East West Rail (EWR) phase 2 programme is in excess of one billion pounds and one of the most prestigious projects in the UK Infrastructure pipeline. It will provide a strategic route linking key centres of economic activity between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and Bedford.
Job Summary
To uphold Alliance ‘Safety in Every Choice’ leadership principles and provide competent support, guidance and compliance monitoring during the development and implementation of ‘best in class’ health & safety management arrangements, compliant with legal, statutory and client requirements.
Responsible For Developing and maintaining health and safety processes and procedures to support project scheme design and construction programme delivery. Ensuring regular and effective liaison / engagement on all health and safety matters with Alliance staff, subcontractors and third parties affected by the works. Undertaking project inductions and support the delivery of the Alliance H&S Programme ‘Safety in Every Choice’ training to Alliance staff and subcontractors, where applicable. Undertaking incident investigations, capturing lessons learnt and supporting the implementation of appropriate change to avoid reoccurrence. Developing and delivering health and safety improvement projects to improve the Alliance’s health and safety performance. Collating and reporting accurate and timely health and safety KPI data. Monitoring compliance against Alliance IMS through effective assurance including audit, inspection and Key Safe Behaviour (KSB) workplace assessment. Representing the Health & Safety Manager at meetings as and when required. Coordinating designated office / site compound health and safety management arrangements.
Ensuring the timely communication of controlled documents and H&S related alerts, information notices and reports. Championing workforce close call reporting within allocated project teams and/or work packages. Supporting the development and delivery of H&S training courses, H&S Stand Down events and H&S briefings, as required.
Job Requirements Experience
The successful candidate will have the following experience/skill set:
Supporting the development and implementation of health and safety management arrangements on large scale multi-disciplinary rail projects Working with delivery teams to determine practical and deliverable measures to improve health and safety performance in the workplace
Skills & Knowledge
NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
Demonstrable collaborative behaviours
Knowledge and experience of general health & safety legislation Knowledge and experience of Railway specific legislation and standards, including Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Company Standards, where applicable Behavioural Change training Computer literate with good understanding of health and safety reporting systems Strong focus and attention to detail Excellent presentation and communication skills Qualified Auditor
